Sylva Striker
Just bought this as my new project. Been sat in a barn since 1995. Its a unfinished Mk4 Striker fitted with a Mk2 escort xflow engine, 4 speed gearbox and english axle that was purchased from the factory in the early 1990's. Not sure what I'm going to do with it as yet. Very, very cheap, infact its cost me less than my AP front brake kit for my group4 escort so I'm well pleased to say the least. I was just in the right place at the right time. Anyone used a Striker as a hillclimb/sprint car.

Hi
There's quite a collection of Strikers on the hills/sprints, David & I share a Mk3 (which is the 'odd one out' as it has outboard front suspension, but otherwise it started in the same spec as yours) but they're also run by John Bradshaw, Mike Smith, David Hussey to name a few - had a few events where there's been more Strikers in 2A than anything else. Generally speaking they go very well indeed, they're light, small and usually well balanced. Specs vary quite a bit but would say most folks keep them relativly simple and use the handling to extract the performance. A bit more background on them:- Mk1 was a one off, had a mazda rotary lump installed and this car is still around somewhere. Mk2 was the first production kit, been in continuous production since 1986 and the one still produced by RAW in Hereford, albeit tweaked a little bit and with IRS. Mk3 was a small distraction in 1988/89 (as a 'cheaper' option!), made about 90 before it was decided not worth it. Mk4 was full bodied and is normally refered to as a Pheonix. So I would check that yours is a MK4 chassis, possible as the base chassis is the same and you could convert one back to a Striker if you really wanted too, but would think it's a MK2? RAW at Hereford are very helpful and you can get any parts you might need easily enough. Hope this helps a bit, if you want to have a look over one drop me a line. |

Thanks for the info. As you point out I think its a Mk2 not Mk4. I'm going to collect it soon so will post some pic's and you can have a closer look.

Sylva Striker Barn Find
Finally started the rebuild on the Striker I found in a barn 6 months ago. Some of the powder coating has started to come of and with some signs of slight rusting so first job was to strip it back to a bare chassis and send it away to be stripped at Ribble Technology in Peaston. Its then going to Protection and Performance near Skipton to have a full cage fitted then back for a new powder coating.
The standard 1600 xflow is one big lump of rust so not too sure if we can save it. Am on the look out for any tuning part for the engine so if you have anything that I could use please get in touch. Will be posting some pics when I remember how to. Cheers Chris |

Dont waste your time with the X-Flow. Plenty of lighter revvier engines about these days such as Rover K series or bike engine, both of which will make more power in standard form than a tuned heavier X-Flow
