Three Sisters Sprint

After 7 years of hillclimbing at solely Harewood I have finally ventured forth and competed at Three Sisters yesterday. All I can say is why didn't I do this sooner!!?
A great venue very friendly and relaxed atmosphere and extremely well organised by Longon and District Motor Club. Good VFM also as we got 2 practice and 4 timed runs. To make the day totally complete I took home a trophy for finished second in class plus the novice trophy to boot!!!
I'm a total convert and can heartily recommend this superb venue anyone.

Thanks to Moya and the LDMC team for a splendid event.

Richard

How many entries did they get?

I often would go to Harewood on the Saturday (For BHC practice) and then to 3 Sisters on Sunday but since getting involved with the commentating at Harewood I have missed most of the 3 Sisters sprints!

Why can't we get some sort of dates committee sorted so that Northern events don't have so many clashes?

About 85 entries I think Steve.
I shared RBS with Barry and had an incident free day. A good day with excellent weather.

Totally agree - excellent LDMC event (as usual). A much wrongly maligned venue that is far more challenging and enjoyable than some people give credit to.
1st BTDBTDBTD (of many!!!) to John Graham in his Dallara. Congrats - what a stunning management team he has!!!!!
The Westfield Boys complained of lack of grip - I was just pleased to be 2 secs quicker than last year!!

Steve - the much needed events committee unfortunately wouldn't work - it would destroy all the power bases!!!!

Well done John, I seem to remember saying last week at Aintree that you'd get effteedee soon!

The lack of grip has long been a problem at 3 Sisters and it became even more of a problem when the built the MotoCross course. It is one of my favourite venues but have missed out over the past couple of years due to date clashes.

Lack of grip?

Having only done one event at this venue I don't have the experience to give a diffinitive appraisal of grip levels. However isn't the level of grip a subjective issue as it can only be compared to either:

1.other venues
or
2.earlier times when grip levels may have been better and pro-rata elapsed times would have been better. Maybe a quick look into times from a few years back might give a truer indication?

It gets used by a lot of 2 strokes (karts mainly) and they seem to leave a bit of an oily residue. When the track is damp the track becomes very slippery. Also there are several changes of tarmac which make it a bit more variable.
In the dry it is OK. When very wet it is OK. However it is like a skid pad in the damp so beware on future visits. Lunar bend is a challenge in all conditions.

Brings to mind a friend's comment about beer:

"There is no such thing as bad beer, there are only different grades of good".

3-Sisters is certainly challenging, especially if you do the over-the-top course. It can be very satisfying too, assuming all goes well. I see it as a good mix between a hillclimb & a sprint.

Re. the grip, I've not been there for years, but my recollection is that it was the most abrasive surface around - huge strips of rubber deposited all over the car from the front tyres.
