Thundersaloon/Specialsaloon Return

Hi All
Thought I'd make my post debut with a bit of info about the Classic Sports Car Clubs plans to run a race for Thundersaloons,Specialsaloons etc on 29th August at Mallory Park. I know this has been tried in the past without success but this time it's game on! There is more info on the PistonHeads forum with some pictrures of some very serious saloons! If you are like me and think cars from this era are proberbly some of the most evocative saloon cars ever made then this will be a date not to miss.As a taster there is a test/press morning at Mallory next Wednesday 29th June with all competing cars set to attend including a certain Fiat 500!
I am not taking part in the race in August (I'm no racing driver) but will be there to display my car Peter Day who built the Fiat will hopefully be there on Wednesday and there's an outside chance that we may have the 1/2 BDA on display in August.
If anyone's about next Wednesday see you there if not try and get there on August Bank Holidy Monday for the real thing!

This would have been a great excuse to bring my Honda Prelude over but I'm racing here the next day.
Can't wait to see the pictures, huge amounts of of motorsport history lies in the Thunder / Special saloons!!

What time does this take place next Wednesday, is it an all day event?

Usually there is car testing all morning and then bike testing all afternoon at Mallory on a Wednesday. I had to meet a customer there one Wednesday morning, and there was a stunning selection of historics running from Simon Hadfield and Hall & Hall...

Hi Martin
It takes place during Mallory's morning test session from 0900 to1230Hrs.It's a long time since I was last there but I think it's split into 20min sessions keeping open and closed cars seperate.Come and say hello if you can make it should be some serious machinery on offer!

None sadly Graham the Fires Service motor sport and weekends off do'nt seem to go togeather too well!

Bad news.

My old neighbour used to run in Thundersaloon's, Jim Mensley, he had a Camaro, a Rover SD1 and a Honda Legend he shared with Tony Wolfe. Not sure if any still exist today, but they were great cars, all V8 powered.
