Timing strut

How far can it be extended from the front of the car?

Running fwd, if I can move the car back a foot from the line, I get the advantage of accelerating on a surface that, a foot further back from the line, has more rubber laid on it.

Yes/No?

I would suggest anywhere in front of the body line, provided that it was safe and couldnt vibrate off. However, I think the scruts wouldnt be happy if it sticks forward more than a foot or so.....

I always find I get a better start on the cleaner tarmac to be honest, I always try and straddle the main launch area if I can.
Unless you are at Santa pod of course due to all special chemicals. ;-)

General
10.9. Timing Struts – Where timing is activated by a
light beam, the vehicles will be fitted at the front with a
vertical timing strut, minimum vertical height 254mm,
the bottom of which shall be not less than 180mm and
no more than 200mm from the ground. The strut will be
in matt black on both sides, over its total area, which
shall be not less than 254mm by 51mm. No other, or
further forward, part of the vehicle may interrupt these
dimensions or actuate the timing.

Taken from the Blue Book, looks like the car is begging for a front Aero package to increase the distance of the strut to the front wheels, look forward to seeing what you come up with.

John

Doesn't need any more bodywork, just a longer strut support, in fact I would have thought you would have been a bit smarter Gb and made an adjustable one so that you can inspect the startline and slide the mounting in or out to suit. Half an hours job.....

To continue this daft conversation I have always pondered an hydraulic strut that could be extended up to 1m just before the finish and then retracted?

Me too, or how about an explosive one fired towards the finish line from 30 feet or so?

Electric motors on the rear axle are probably the only way I'm going to get the assistance off the line I need. 4WD, just for the starts would be worth a good 1/2 a second off the time taken to get to 60ft.

Try leaving the line in reverse . you will have better grip and I am sure you would mprove the 64ft time . The j turn so you can continue up the hill would probably lose a second or so but for entertainment value ...........

Hasta

By the way was polishing the tow car wheels part of the preparation on Sunday ?
