Uphill Racers by Chris Mason

Some of you may like to know that W H Smith are selling a quantity of this hard to find book for the sum of £49.95 inc delivery. Only £10 more than it was when 1st published. Many people who didn't buy it when it was 1st released or newcomers to the sport have bemoaned its lack of availability for the past few years.
Now is the time to grab it otherwise you will be at the mercy of robbing scoundrels like this.

Didn't Dick Turpin end his career in York? At least he had the decency to wear a mask as he fleeced you.

Hurrah for those wonderful chaps at W H Smith. Thats a fair do for a wonderful tome thats nearly as good as Sprinty's book, still available in all good skips round the back of Woolworths now.

I see they are also doing Richard Hammonds book for £7.49. I hope that means they pay you that to take one off their hands because I wouldn't give a handful of rusty nuts for it.

As to the highway robber on eBay, where is he from? Thats right, Yorkshire. Remind me again, which prominent forum members originated from those parts.

Yours in somnia...

Me, Me, Me although from the real part. A sensible Yorkshire price that nobody from the County would pay but some foolish person from elsewhere would !!!
Excellent book well worth having, but when is the sequel to bring it uptodate going to be produced ??????
Another book, only obtainable from the MAC office, is the British Hill-Climb Championship 60th Anniversary Souvenir Book. It covers every season with loads of photographs, many not seen before. At a price inc p&p of about £7.50, in my opinion well under-priced, it is not to be missed.

I doubt that there would be the market for Uphill Racers - the next generation. After all it would be a slim volume in comparison as it bridged the gap from Chris Mason's excellent tome to the present day.

I fully agree with Floads and bought my copy whilst at SW for the BHC 60th.

I suspect that the WH Smith copies will sell out very quickly so get in quickly before they ae all gone!

Hull's a parallel world. Didn't you have different telephones to everyone else? At least there was always plenty of fish to eat there unlike where I come from.

Yes I can relate to that. £50 for a book would be a lot for someone who is still struggling with the rudiments of Janet & John.

No seriously, it is worth that and more.
I have been buying them and moving them on for more than that to grateful recipients.
I have at least one request per week.

Not so much struggling with Janet and John but with **** and ***** (you know their names )

It may be a good price for a great book but its hard to justify for a family man with commitments...

I dont know why something that cost nothing like £50 a copy should be sold for that much money....
Its the same with cars and lots of other things....

Its just us being stung because its something we want ..

Slightly, ok very, shameless plug but I run a book price comparison website if anyone wants to use it to keep an eye on prices: -
See here

To be honest the book stores don't provide great data for hard to find books so it probably isn't that much help, e.g. Blackwells list stock as 5-7 weeks in the data they provide me but show it as 3-9 days on the site, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

I asked the person on EBAY who has it for sale & this is his reply:

Just try ordering them, it shows up on their catalogue, but in reality this book is long out of print, and you'll wait a couple of months before receiving a item unavailable email.

I might just try ordering one to see what happens!
