Westernzoiland

Hi

We're about to go down to Westernzoiland for some shakedown testing. Whilst the bloke who runs the site says it's "fine", I've heard collaterally that it's a bit crap & not suitable for a single seater..

Before I waste a day of my life driving there from London, anyone got any experience of the place? It's the vehicle testing facility rather than one of the old runways etc...

Thanks

Yup it's crap ! The main runway is much better - the bikes of the hsa use this side a couple of times a year . The surface is on a par with Chivenor. Not sure who owns this side

The bit on the other side of the road from the main runways is small and not suitable at all. I'm not so sure about the various bits on the same side as the runways. I know there have been practice days organised on the Driftworks forum and there's a local sprint championship for road cars run there with no affiliation to the MSA. They have a few noise problems.

Westonzoyland.

Hi, Rob,
The available patch of Westonzoyland aerodrome is around 200m X 300m, you can get a 600cc car just into 3rd gear down the long side. The surface is concrete, fairly smooth, and is pretty abrasive to hillclimb tyres. It would be worth walking around first to see if there is any debris as the apron is used also for HGV driver training and dismantling pallets amongst other activities.
You can look at the site if you go on Google earth to 51 degrees, 06', 12" by
2 degrees, 53', 55" after typing in Westonzoyland.
Avoid the place at weekends as it attracts a lot of learner drivers and children on minibikes.
The main airstrip is much better but, due to it being under the ownership of two adjoining farmers has concrete blocks across it except when the NSA is using it for bike sprints.
Regards,Tony.
