Whatever Happened To..

..The fearsome red ex-Will Gollop Metro 6R4 and its driver, Malvern resident Ken Sims?

Have been off the hillclimb scene for a few years and I used to love watching this machine tear up Shelsley.

According to Zipp Photography, September 2007 seems to be Ken's last appearance on the hills. There's a couple of YouTube videos of it dating from around the same time, but I can't find any more recent information about him.

Shame as he was possibly one of the most entertaining driver/car combos in the Unlimited Sports Libre Class after the sad death of Tom Hammonds.

Trouble is it more often than not used to tear itself up as well...

Be that due to driver error or mechanical woes...

He's sadly absent through my tenure, or should that be gratefully absent. There always seemed to be a great deal of rebuilding to be done in all quarters after some of his runs.

I can recall helping to unload Ken's 6R4 in the Shelsley paddock one Friday afternoon then helping to shovel all the bits back onto the trailer less than 24 hours later. BlackX will remember that he put the car along the sleepers into bottom ess pulling a door clean off.

As to people visiting Scotland, just keep plenty of cash on you this weekend mx125!

I am trying hard to get the no-fly zone extended over Dyce Airport

Supply of stovies in the fridge ready and waiting for him.

At that incident I was IC of the Rescue Unit. Ken was still sat in what was left of the car, I strolled over and leant in and said "Kenny, we really must stop meeting like this".
