XR2 turbo technics, is this classed as a manufacturer option?

I'm just wondering if my car would be nudged into the sports libre class.

It's a MK2 fiesta XR2 with a turbo placing it into the 2000cc onward category of the road going class.

I know you need to be in the same capacity class as the original car or the manufacturer’s specified option for the model and engine and here lies the question:

Ford did offer the Turbo Techincs conversion as an option and was covered under the ford warranty is this enough to keep me in the road going class but just play in the higher engine greater than 2000 capacity class?

Nice try but I think you might find that they would have to make 2000 (or whatever) of the same and I think that's unlikely? You'll be fine in sports libra, no more rules to worry about, just need a 6 point belt I think.

Oh..

I take it I'll need a cage as well (with a diagonal) I was hoping to still use the back seats

If you plan to run it in road condition I don't think you need a cage.

I would enter road cars and argue (politely) with the scrutineers....the worst that will happen is you will loose and get moved. Sports Libre is a lonely place at a lot of events....and a very fast place at others!

You could be Road-going Series production cars or Road-going Specialist production cars (in with the Locaterfields) or Sports Libre.
I think it depends on numbers produced and, of course, the opinions of CoC/Eligibility scrutineer/championship co-ordinator........

Road-going Specialist production cars

You would need evidence that it was a available as a Ford upgrade, (leaflet, brochure, magazine review, parkers guide, letter from Ford/Turbo Technics), through the normal dealer network.

You would also need evidence that your car (chassis no) was one of the original Turbo Technic converted cars, again a letter from Ford/Turbo Technics tying up your chassis number.

If less than a 1000 were made in 12 consecutive months you might be able to compete in Road-going Specialist production cars. (Presuming this is your case and depending on the MSA)

If more than 1000 you might be able to get into Road-going production cars.

I have been through exactly this process with one of my cars, I found people were very willing to help provide information and I bought all the magazine and price guides on ebay. Took a while though.
