You could set it to not ask for a password at all if you wanted to... So it just boots up and presents you with the desktop.

I had it that way until about a year ago as I was spooked by a security 'attack' so decided to make it more secure from human attack with a pass word.
Bit of a faff having to sign it often, but like the security.

Having trouble this week with the iPad. On a busy (people in the cul de sac) evening with everyone on the 'net, the iPad cannot log in. No probs when all are at work etc.
This has crept-in over the last month or so. PC does not have this problem, both off the same router!

Bloody computers!

PC just started up in 12 seconds!

Apparently Apple Mac isn't spoken here so you're on your own with anything fruit based.

Ha!
The fruity pad seems to sometimes work in the evening, or simply will not open on any forum etc, even Uphill.

I'm monitoring the broadband speed, which seems to be around 4.8 in the morning @10am and 3.9 in the early evening.

You will always get a contended broadband connection. If your laptop works fine and the iPad doesn't I'd be looking at your WiFi settings to see what is happening.

I'd be inclined to recommend putting the wireless router in to Modem mode, and switching to a Ubiquiti USG, and a Ubiquiti AP-Pro.

Also changing to OpenDNS makes a huge difference in DNS resolution performance, and with familyshield DNS, its a more family friendly setup than it was before.

OpenDNS

For more info on contention and speeds, this is a good article Graham

Somewhat of an aside....., but I have a 4 year old Lenovo E535 ThinkPad. In the last few months it had statrted to slow down considerably as well as doing a few unexplainable wierd things. My local experts recommended I replace the (original) hard drive with a solid state hard drive, which I decided to do (about ?150 all done incl data transfer) as I didn't want to buy a new one till next financial year.

Result?...POOOOOWWWWW!!! Works like new now. Really good - and really pleased!

Just a thought!

PC is working well!
IPad works perfectly until evening starts and all the kids are at it...
Sometimes good, sometimes crap.
All a bit irritating, so do as much as possible in the day!
