End of Curborough?

I see that Curborough is on the shortlist published today as a possible site for one of the new 'Eco-towns'. I fear the end may be in site for the classic sprint venue, confirming rumours that have been around for some time.
It's on a shortlist of 15, soon to be whittled down to a confirmed 10 sites for development. Lets all keep our fingers crossed!

I regret to say that this story is a lot older than it appears and pre-dates the eco town plan. It was discussed on the earlier hillclimb and sprint forum about two years ago.

The Curborough scheme has been in the County and National development plan for quite a while and a number of us have seen the base plan before, but it seems it has now been hi-jacked by the Eco BTDBTDBTDBTDBTDBTDs.

In those plans the site of the sprint course is public open space, surrounded by housing and light industry but cleared of all the old roads and landscaped into a parkland setting.

I'll have a look see if the original plan is still on-line somewhere.

... and at ZERO cost!

How short-sighted!

Seriously I suspect that the ECO brigade getting on the band-wagon will usher in the end of Curborough's motorsport heritage just that little bit sooner!

It is a great shame that Britain's only full time sprint course should bite the dust in such a manner!

I await the evening newspaper for reports of Jeremy Bouckley committing hari kari following the news of the imminent demise of the Midlands Premier Speed Venue.

Not only the sprinters losing oput but also the resident cycle club and where on earth will the UK Hydrofoil Championship finals be held.

As jo white says, it's the country that's over crowded.

Seems more to it than that according to Yahoo news today

An Australian man who leapt onto a crocodile after it seized his wife in its jaws, wrestling and poking it in the eyes until it let go, was praised on Thursday as a hero by startled onlookers.

The 2.5 metre (8.2 ft) croc charged late on Wednesday from shallow water at Lichfield National Park,

Don't know about an eco area but more like a wildlife reserve.
