More likely 195/530 than 195/570 though

Radials
Is that just to keep the chassis low or do they perform better?

Avon don't make a 195/570 13, only a 195/530 13.

Tyre size
Whoops. I must have written it down incorrectly when they gave me the sizes.

Having now looked at the size charts I see that the given sizes will fit upto 9" and 11" wheels respectively. That seems the opposite logic to crossplies, where the tyres should be 1" narrower than wheel rim. Is that correct?

Yes correct the 195 and 250 will sit a treat on 8s and 10s

Dan - You can get shorter top front wishbones to allow fitting radials to the front. I had enough adjustment on the normal rear setup to accomodate them.

I have been curious about running radials on the Jedi. What were your experiences??? Any gains to be had?

The softest compound available was their uncut circuit wets which I tested at Llandow, I used themography to get the best setup and experimented with pressures, camber and toe but couldn't get them to work from cold. With my final setup after a couple of laps of Llandow they warmed up and I think they were better than the crossplies though I have no comparable times just a feeling that I could brake a bit later and drive just a bit harder through the bends. Unfortunately Llandow sprint is 1 3/4 laps therefore in competition they never reached operating temperature, performed poorly and I moved on to Avon crossplies. My conclusion from this is that I think that radials will work just as well as crossplies on a Jedi provided that you get the right compound. I also think that if you get the set up right, they could be more durable than crossplies, by that I mean less prone to change throughout the run, as I found it quite difficult to get heat into them other than by spinning up the rears which incidentally, raised the surface temperature by 80 Deg C with 2 secs of spinning (It was a cold day). |

Thankyou Andy. I have run radial wets and they are brilliant. Running radial slicks is on my to do list for this year.
