Phantom P79

I have been watching this on E-bay for a bit and wondered if anyone knows the car or anything about it? E-bay number is 172860008859
I love the look of it and have always fancied a sports libre car......

IMHO that looks a great car for little cash.
Surprised you have not bought it!
Libre is a great class.

Looks like a bit of winter TLC and you are ready to go for 2018!

I was looking at it and trying to figure out the logistics of buying it and my wife said "ooh I like that, it's quite pretty" I thought......oh no, that just made it a lot more difficult to forget about.....a car with the wife's blessing doesn't happen very often. It pretty much fits on my trailer exactly as well.

It has never been used for speed events and it has no log book.....belt is in date....anyone think of anything that would cause an issue? ROPS an issue? I've seen a lot of debating on that subject but no idea on the implications for something like this!!!

Something is puzzling me regarding the car. it says is a 1979 genuine car etc but its got a Sierra rear diff and drive shafts!

If you want something like this, the one for sale by Lakeslad on here looks the business, albeit a bit more expensive but suitably better specced as well. http://www.uphillracers.com/showpost...24&postcount=1

Yes, Mark's car is very very quick and a beauty.

The car for Libre (the class I run in) needs to be looked at with the BB in hand. The Rops issue is easy (now) to check, the sizes are in the BB.
If it has no Certificate then it needs to of the correct dimensions.

The rest is very much 'free', make sure the wheels are under the arches etc.

As to the Sierra diff, competition cars get modified as life goes on, I think any tweeks made on this car just makes it all the more interesting.

Libre class can be very liberating as the rules are very loose.

If the wife likes it, it is an even bigger bargain.

It's not a bit more expensive it's nearly double the price! It does look like a better car out of the box....sadly I don't have £12k or a way of getting it unless I win some money!

Hi

Have you done any sleuthing with the circuit racers of the Clubmans Regsiter about the spec of the car? How current is it for them and in which class/championship (E.g. Classic or current?) And what racing car market if you were to sell it on.

http://www.clubmans.org.uk

Have you seen Phantom's current website: http://www.phantomracing.nu/index_eng.html

Cheers
Mike

Thanks - interesting web sites....to be honest I am busy talking myself out of it as hard as I can! I'd have to buy new helmet and Hans and sell both my old Skodas to do it and then I'd get bored and I've spent a fortune on them!!! Maybe next year.......
