Modified specialist production cars

As the requirements for modified specialist production cars state that 20 chassis must have been made available over a 12 month period, can anyone tell me why a radical SR3 wouldn't be eligible for the class?
I know there's a few that run in sports libre, but why?

Could that be that most are not road registered?

As far as I can see, no road registry required for modified

I see, but surely the word "production" means they are road going cars by implication.

Sect.B of the Blue Book : To be a modified specialist production car, you must first be a specialist production car and an SR3 isn't :

Quote:
Specialist Production Car. A car of which at least 20 identical examples are manufactured within a twelve consecutive month period and fitted with a series production car engine.
So what is a series production car ?
Quote:
Series Production Car. A car of which at least 1,000 identical examples have or are being manufactured within a twelve consecutive month period.
Has the engine in an SR3 been fitted in a car that 1000 identical examples have been produced in a twelve month period ?

Hang on - might need to correct myself there - I'd thought the SR3 only came with a bike engine - there appears to have been an SR3SL which was fitted with a 2L Ford Ecoboost motor - in which case as long as they've made 20 SR3SLs in a 12 month period ...

Which they have. Also there was the SR5 which has a Honda K20 engine in the back, there where 34 of those made in one year although not road legal.

On that definition of Specialist Production Car it appears that no Bike engined kitcars are eligible?

I think that is an interesting point Muggo. It may be implied in S12.2 that the cars were originally destined for the road, but it dosen't say it.

It will pretty soon if you ruck up with a radical in the class though!! Maybe you shouldn't have started this thread!

I have never seen 20 identical Westfields but as Eddie Walder knows only too well I see 54 identical Caterhams every year.

The whole "which engine do I fit?" conundrum is a can of worms. Some manufacturers provide fitting kits for all sorts of engines but the question should really be have they ever provided 20 identical engine fitting kits in a calendar year?

Interesting, so all of the bike engined kit cars are not eligible for specialist production as they don't run a "car" engine!
I thought that the production numbers of 20 were across the board I.E. 20 chassis made available (not sold) and that the bike engine is a production unit as its numbers are also above 20 made available.
In which case the whole range of Radicals fit the description!
