Fire Extinguishers

Hi. So are ???? extinguishers compulsory for 2018. Please don't tell me to read the bible as I haven't got one yet.

The bible is available here:

https://www.msauk.org/assets/000bb20...elow-res88.pdf

I would have pasted the answer in but seem to be unable to do so. Even so, the answer in section 10.1.14 is "K3.1.2(a) recommended for discharge into cockpit and engine compartment".

recommended does not mean mandatory, so you do not have to have one

In the past various 'safety' items have been "recommended" and then become mandatory. If this is the first year that they have been recommended I would suggest they will be mandatory for 2020.

They have been recommended for quite a few years now.

They are only recommended but be aware of K.3.3

K.3.3. During events:
K.3.3.1. All plumbed-in extinguisher systems must be in an ‘ARMED’ condition (i.e. be capable of being operated without the removal of any safety device) at all times whilst competing or practising in races or speed events (including during post-event scrutineering), and at all times that crash helmets are worn on rallies (i.e. on Stages etc.).

So if you've got a plumbed in one it must be operational

That all seems fair enough, no point in fitting it if it does not work or has the lock pin in.

There is no change to that requirement for 2018 (or has gas been said for MANY years before).

What the future holds with the apparent move towards alignment with the FIA is another matter for the inevitable series of ROPS type winging threads on UR
