2012 Rd 1 Castle Combe

Round One to Robb

24th March 2012 Castle Combe Bristol Motor Club 110 starters

The opening day of the SBD Motorsport British Sprint Championship was disrupted by a number on incidents needing the Rescue and Recovery. Thankfully everyone emerged unscathed but several cars were worse for wear. The delays meant that the Top12 Run-off was cancelled and the points awarded on Qualification Times.
Taking the 12 points was 2011 champion Stewart Robb even though the Judd engine seemed to be having engine management problems. Terry Holmes finished second after a stunning drive in the Team Tegra Lola despite only being geared for 155mph.
The battle for third was resolved in favour of Mark Smith in the SBD Reynard with co-driver Steve Broughton a whisker away in fourth. Graham Porrett finished fifth despite a 360 spin at Camp. In sixth it was the Gould of Terry Graves which appeared to be under-geared and was missing out on top speed.
Colin Calder finished seventh whilst Heather Calder was eighth despite a trip through an escape road meant her second run time was nullified. It was the Claders first visit to Combe and also the first time they had driven the GR55 in anger. Ninth went to the ever cheerful Steve Miles who had a minor suspension failure on his second run which might have meant he would have missed the run-off. Tenth and eleventh were the Pillingers with Scott just beating his father Dave. The final point went to veteran bill Gouldthorpe who was making his first appearance in the championship with the ex-Steve Broughton OMS.
Championship Coordinator Paul Parker said “The rescue and recovery vehicles probably clocked up the most mileage. I can’t remember a day with so many incidents.”

Apparently my contact got it wrong and the results have now been amended on the BMSA website.
