Hi Steve

Why the thought that longer is better?

It can make for a very drawn out day for everybody, part of Aintree's appeal is the 100 plus cars an hour fired off the line - it makes for a fast flowing / interesting to be at day.

If the event's tempo is ticking along everybody gets going, and although you can have huge entries at Aintree there's always lots of runs - think I did 6 runs at a 140+ entries event last year.

Going for 2 laps would kill that stone dead - already does at a few other venue's one could mention - so you lose the atmosphere and probably the spectators interest too?

More corners = more challenges for the competitors plus better value for money when travelling all over the country.

More laps......Less cars

Less laps......More cars

I much prefer to see more cars fired off the start line as opposed to half the number of cars doing more laps...

They are meant to be sprints not a trundle around for a couple of laps. 2 starts = 2 times but 4+ starts gives twice as many chances of doing a winning time. In my, probably worthless, opinion 1200yds+/- is the right length for a sprint.

Trust me they don't trundle!

However you have to ask why certain competitors have in the past chosen to miss the shorter events?

I for one wouldn't even bother going to Lydden as a spectator if it was one lap never mind as a competitor!

This could get very political, i know the reason why certain competitors chose to miss certain events and it was not the length at all. I will leave it at that at the mo.

Cheers
