Greetings All

I'm hoping to do the Craigantlet BHC round this season as a closed road course is on my bucket list .... In order to get there benefit of the ferry trip I hope to do the Drumhorc Hillclimb the weekend before and have a tour round in the camper during the intervening week.

I know nothing about the meeting other than a couple of YT videos so am hoping someone who competes there might be able to help me find out more.

I'm wondering:

Is it suitable for single seaters?

Do I have to belong to a local club to enter?

Is there Friday night space for the camper and trailer?

Is there somewhere close I can leave the trailer between the meetings to save me infuriating half the drivers in Ireland by towing it round country lanes for a week?

And anything else I might need to know

Hi Keith.

I Haven't done Drumhorc in 10Years, but if you are after the closed road experience you have picked the right hill for a warm up!

Is it suitable for single seaters?

Yes but better suited to Mk2 Escorts, its like a Rally Special Stage, with T-Junctions and Hawthorne Hedges! What single seater will you be running? you might need to screw up the right height alittle!

Do I have to belong to a local club to enter?

Unsure, I don't see why as long as you are a member of your own local club.

Is there Friday night space for the camper and trailer?

We have parked on the hill the night before but it will be at the side of the road where only one car can pass, but road is very quiet. There is no Paddock space as such.

Is there somewhere close I can leave the trailer between the meetings to save me infuriating half the drivers in Ireland by towing it round country lanes for a week?

Maybe ask some of the Motorclub Members, Drumhorc is run by Newry & District MC about storing the trailer.. I would maybe look at some of the self storage companies locally that way it will all be secure and insured.

Thanks for that..... Asked about single seaters as the vids featured mostly escorts in various phases of going sideways..... My car runs the obligatory 40mm plus a bit... I'm sure I could screw up the ride height a bit if needed as I'm unlikely to be on the edge on my first visit to the track anyway

Asked about to membership as sometimes you need to be a member of the local association of car clubs to enter events

Usually like to arrive and get unloaded the night before if possible... Just a quirk of mine .... I can always take a 'fly-by' and if the parking looks too tight for my van and trailer I can move on til I find a layby.. Am self sufficient in the camper

Anyone with recent single seater time at Drumhorc out there??

Unlikely you will want to unload the night before, unless you don’t mind your car sitting at the side of an open road while you sleep, same goes with craigantlet unfortunately

We ran Pilbeam MP82 & 88 there at the time, don’t remember us having to run it hugely high.

I’d imagine you could join the club on the day!

All this info is useful.... I'm used to rolling up the night before... Unloading and setting up the car... Parking up the camper then off to the pub for a meal with the lads..... Looks like I'll be setting my alarm somewhat earlier!! :-).... Do the trailers and tow vehicles just park up at the side of the road?..... Learning curved for me!!.... Looking forward to it

Drumhorc is quite bumpy and is hard on drivetrain on a single seater. Not much room for error on last section

I put my formula ford through the 6ft fence into the haulage yard once on the 2nd last corner! Opps!

Great hill tho, usually attracts a lot of 4wd rally cars which tend to through out abit of loose gravel from the insides of the corners!

You'll find it is definitely bumpy in a single seater, my teeth rattle in the OMS PR. BTDBTDBTDs by single seaters the last two years.

A local business provide the trailer park at the top of the hill during the event and Newry & Mourne Motor Club might be able to get you access to leave the trailer there - worth a try (I'd offer you parking but house up for sale!).

You might also need to be a member of an ANICC affiliated club, membership is low cost and can usually be paid with entry fee.

The paddock is alongside a narrow road and turning a single seater is lots of fun.

So from the description it sounds like you unload at the bottom of the hill then move your trailer/tow vehicle to parking at the top?

What ground clearances do you run on the OMS?... I have an old Formula Ford chassis converted to bike power, slicks and wings... Dynamically very similar to the OMS

It's quite an expensive trip over so I'm keen to get more than one event in if I can.... This sounds like nothing I've ever done before... and I'm always up for that

I'll get in touch with the organising club and get the entry forms and membership.
