Wiscombe Park - HR Owen Ecurie Hillclimb - Torbay MC

Saturday 13th May saw the latest, round 5, of the Bridge Tyres ASWMC Hillclimb Championship visit Wiscombe Park. A nice sunny day greeted the competitors, however, recent rain meant that the hill had damp patches that would catch people out all day with a number of delays and failed runs. Although everyone had their 2 practice runs, there was only time in the afternoon for 1 timed run - all the more critical to get the set up of the car correct from morning practice. The most significant delay was following quite a serious accident involving Bella Murray in the 1000cc Cooper Harley MK5 which she shares with husband Guy. In her second practice run, Bella clipped the bank between Esses 1 and Esses 2 on the run up to Sawbench Hairpin. The car then turned over and went through the straw bales and stopped short of the trees. It appears that Bella sustained a broken leg and possible neck and back injuries. Hope she makes a speedy recovery and is back on the hill's soon. As usual, there was a very varied field of machinery. Wiscombe was hosting various championships:
Classic Hillclimb.com Round 3 / Classic Marques Speed Challenge Round 7 / Luffield MG Car Club Speed Championship / TVR Car Club Speed Championship Round 9 / Downton Engineering Social Club (DEWS) Speed Series
This ensured an interesting entry list of classics, MG's, TVR's and Mini's
In addition, there was a large collection of motor bikes and side car combinations.
Rod Thorne kept up his 100% record of Fastest Time of the Day for 2017 - his 4th of the Wiscombe season - in the very rapid Pilbeam MP43.

Guy is actually Bella's dad.
Very best wishes to her for a quick recovery.
