Licences

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a speed Nation A & speed National A open licence?

Can I run a 1300 engined car in Libre next year on a National A or must it be a open????

Open is required for Sports Libre cars over 2000 cc AFAIK.

Unless, of course, it's road legal.
7.1.5 and 7.1.5.1 actually looks sensibly interpretable.

And run in road legal condition, i.e road tyres, fully working lights, wipers. mot, tax, insurance etc.

But still must comply with the safety requirements for Sports Libre!

There's another thread on here discussing this - pretty sure Dan (and others) quoted from the BB that it's now over 1100cc racing/libre cars requiring an A Open.

No, over 1100cc requires Nat.A as of 1/1/18.

Date of implementation: 1 January 2018
7.1.5.1. Any Driver competing in a Racing or Sports Libre car of more than 1100cc, or equivalent forced induction, with the exception of a pre’1994 Formula Ford 1600 in compliance with the period Ford regulations, must hold a Speed National A or Race National A Licence (H.16.1.1), unless the car is currently licensed for use on the public highway and competes in the event in a road-legal condition.

Doesn't have to have the sort of "road" tyres you're thinking of to be road legal. Have a read of C&U and Tyre Regs. Blue Book even agrees.

Having spoken to MSA yesterday I can confirm that they told me, National A for sports libre upto 2.0 & National A open for over. (Unless in roadgoing trim, etc.)

It's all in the 2018 Blue Book now online,

Sections 7.1.5 and 7.1.5.1 even in red

There's also something about non self starting cars in red.
