Looking for Palliser Info ( Early 70's)
Hi Guys,
I'm new here, so go gently ! A mate of mine has just bought the 2nd Palliser hillclimb car from around 1971 - 1973 & we are looking for more Info on it. At the time '71-'73 there were 2 Pallisers running. The more well-known is Mike MacDowells ( Later driven by Peter Voigt ) & my mates was driven by Jack Maurice. I have found a couple of mentions in Autosport & Motorsport magazines from the period, along with some Harewood Programmes, but am looking for more info. If anyone out there has photo's , Programmes, other tips for Magazine mentions, I'd be really grateful. The car is now in Germany, has FIA papers & has been run since around 1990 as an F5000 with a Rover V8. It's currently a basket case, but should be on the track again in 2018. Thanks in Advance Steve |

WDH2 - was built for Jack Maurice in June/July/August 1971 with a Repco V8 - Maurice set the Best Time of the Meeting at Castle Howard's Gunter Trophy event late in the 1971 season.
02/07/72 Prescott - Jack Maurice (London) Palliser WDH2 Repco 4200cc In 1977 Maurice hung the Palliser chassis on the ceiling of his "Pit Stop" bar. At some point before 1985 it was sold to Brian Cox who fitted with a Chevy V8 engine and run as a F5000 car in the HSCC's "Pre-70" Championship in 1985 and 1986. In 1986 it was sold to Mike Pendlebury who had Peter Denty restore it.

Hi Steve,
Many thanks for the reply. That pretty much ties in with what we have. We also have proof that between Jack Maurice & Brian Cocks it was owned by Mark Cummings who ran it with a Lotus Twin Cam !! We have nothing on the car between 1973 & July 81 ( when at appeared with a Twin Cam at Harewood ) I'd love to find a picture of it on the ceiling. We've got quite a few letters from previous mechanics & Brian Cocks, various receipts from Denty etc. There's been a lot of Money spent on it over the years !! After Mike Pendlebury, it was owned & driven by Nick Overall ( the ex-HSCC chairman ). I'm trying to find a way to contact these guys. ( Brian Cocks has sadly passed away ) We have FIA papers ( Mike did this ) & lots of receipts etc, but little info as to where ( & when it ran ) or pictures from any period. I think we've found about 4 pics until now ( there's a great one in the Mike Hayward Collection ! ) We're very concious of the fact that we are only the current custodian of this wonderful machine & everything we find will be passed on ( eventually ... there are no plans to sell it ! ) to the next custodian. Every little helps ! |
