Uphill Racers is on a distinguished road
Alan Smith

We have just received the sad news that W Alan Smith, Mr Wasco, passed away in the early hours of this morning. His health had been failing for some time.
Many will know Alan from his days as timekeeper at Aintree, 3 Sisters and many other venues.

In the early days of his motorsport “career” he was also a competitor although on two wheels, not four. He took BTD on his 350 Matchless at the first ever Barbon Hillclimb back in 1950, the only time that a Barbon event’s BTD was set by a motorcycle rather than a car.

Alan Smith's funeral will be held at 12.00 on Wednesday 7th March, at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium, Powder House Lane, Lancaster LA2 6AD. His many friends and acquaintances from the world of motorsport are invited to attend.
